One Year in Thailand

Today marks my 1 year anniversary here in Thailand. Time seems to have gone by so quickly. It seems like just the other day I was getting off the plane in Bangkok, in such an unfamiliar place.
My life became fast-paced very quickly. Kwan and I were officially engaged 1 day after I arrived and married a month later. It sounds crazy…and it was! I wouldn’t trade it for anything though. Even now, looking back, I can see God’s hand in everything.

The sharp contrast of this culture, language barrier, lack of financial security and being newly married has only secured my foundation in Christ. This time of waiting here has been such a great opportunity to learn, grow, serve and even rest. Doing ministry and being the church in a different context has opened my eyes to so many different things. Being outside of my comfort zone has allowed me to put aside my preconceived ideas about how things should work and how God should do things. Being able to step back from, “well, this is how we do it in the States,” has been crucial to learning and being fully effective here. We have to be able to take God outside of the box and let him move and work how He wants, wherever we are.

I could go on, but I’ll keep this post somewhat short. I haven’t and won’t take this time here in Thailand for granted. I love Thailand. I love Thai people. God is good. God is faithful.
